TV Crossovers
This last week was a week for tv crossovers. Both, the Chicago franchise with 3 shows and the 9-1-1 franchise with 2 current shows had crossover events; where actors and story lines from one show bleed into another.
In the Chicago world, the story was about a hijacked airplane that landed on autopilot. The crew from Chicago Fire were on scene to breech the plane and check for survivors. The crew risked their lives exposing themselves to an unknown toxin.
On Chicago Med, it was all about treating the victims of the biological attack and on Chicago PD, they focused on catching the attackers.
They have done these crossover events before but none went as smoothly as this one. The cast and crew worked to deliver seamless performances throughout the night.
Working with writers and crew firm 3 different tv shows brings in a lot of opinions and can feel clunky at times. Not the case for this crossover. It was by far one the best crossover event to date.
The other awesome surprise was the return of a couple characters that had left Chicago PD years ago. We never got a full resolution with these characters and bringing them back for this event, gave us a chance to have a bit more closure. There have been speculations that we may still see more from these characters but only time will tell.
To my surprise, the 9-1-1 crew also had a small crossover event. While the storylines weren’t nearly as entwined as in the Chicago event, a couple of characters from 9-1-1 were guests of the crew on 9-1-1 Nashville, throwing them into a much different setting.
The episode was fun and funny and the characters stayed true to their nature. The guys from both shows bonded and left the door wide open for more crossover events in the future.
For the most part, I like to watch all the iterations of a fictional world. I immerse myself into the themes and plots and get close to my favorite characters. 9-1-1 had a small crossover once with 9-1-1 Lone Star, when it was still airing new episodes, but I think the franchise as a whole has lots of room to grow.
All in all, these events bring more eyeballs to the screen and that is always a good thing. For those that don’t watch every show, it gives them an intro to the characters they don’t know while interacting with the characters they do. With network tv hanging on by a thread, the more we watch, the better their chances.
What do you think about crossover events? Are they as successful as they are meant to be? Tell me what you think. And if not, a like and restack would be great too.

Love this!!
I don't watch those shows, but I do like crossovers. I remember waaaaayyyyy back in the day when Laverne and Shirley and Happy Days did crossovers. I was like, hey they know each other?
